Avatar: The Way of Water sequel was announced to be released back in 2023. Four years later, we finally got a concrete timeline, with Avatar: The Way of Water set to be released on 2022-12-14. The film was later pushed back one final time to 2022-12-14, right in time for Christmas. Like many movies being released in 2023, Avatar: The Way of Water will be only available to view in theaters.
As of now, the only way to watch Avatar: The Way of Water is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on 2022-12-14. You can find a local showing on Fandango. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Apple, Vudu or YouTube.
While a digital release date for Avatar: The Way of Water has not yet been announced, we can make an educated guess based on a previous film distributed by Neon.
Triangle of Sadness, which debuted in theaters on Oct. 7, hit digital platforms on Nov. 22 — about 45 days after its theatrical release. If Avatar: The Way of Water follows the same trajectory, we may be able to watch from the comfort of our homes by mid-March 2023.
No, Avatar: The Way of Water will not be on Netflix — at least not any time soon. In the meantime, catch it at a movie theater or wait for it to become available on digital platforms.
No, Avatar: The Way of Water is not on HBO Max because it’s not a Warner Bros. movie. The company announced last year that it would no longer drop movies in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. Instead, it has implemented a 45-day window between theatrical releases and streaming releases.
As none of the production companies involved in making Avatar: The Way of Water are owned by Disney, it is unlikely that the movie will ever be available to stream on Disney Plus.
Avatar: The Way of Water will likely become available to buy and rent on Amazon at some point. Whether or not the movie will be available to stream on Prime Video for subscribers has not yet been revealed.
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new horror movie Avatar: The Way of Water on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

The movie follows a wealthy couple, James and Em Foster, on a getaway vacation at a remote island resort. As an author, James sought inspiration for his second book but inadvertently stumbled upon another couple at the resort who are big fans of his first book. They invite James and Em on a day-trip excursion outside the resort, which he agrees to, but Em is reluctant.
After a tragic accident, James is woken up by officers pounding on his door with a warrant for his arrest. He is told that crimes committed there are punishable by death, a sentence he can only avoid by paying “a large sum of money.” With no other apparent option, James agrees to pay for a procedure that will create a lifelike clone of his body. The clone will take his place during his sentenced execution. If you’ve seen Christopher Nolan’s 2006 film, The Prestige, you’ll see where the ethical lines begin to get blurred here.
What seems like a relaxing vacation quickly turns into a nightmare as the Fosters are swept into a world of over-indulgence, exploitation, and straight-up sadism.
